Hello there people (hope this is the right forum!)
This is a bit of a long shot but i couldn't think of a better place to ask than on here.
I am currently volunteering at a school in the Himalayas, we are an NGO and have around 200 students. The school sits high in the mountains and has limited access to well, anything.
The school has been running for 8 years, and during this time the teachers or volunteers have tried to bring things to the school to help the students (all of whom come from extremely poor families and backgrounds).
We currently have one IT lab that uses a LAN based KVM (sort of system) connecting 1 computer to 10 monitors. As you can imagine, it's not the best, but we make do. We also have a few laptops that I am trying to repair and get them on the network but they are mainly haggered. We have no solid internet connection at the school and this is something else we are also trying to establish. Currently using a 3G dongle if the school has funds.
Now seeing as this is one of the busiest computer forums I know, I was wondering if there were any people out there with some useful hardware they would be willing to donate. Literally open to anything. If I could build a few more towers out of left overs I would be more than happy. Also networking gear, keyboards (PS2 and usb) and mice. Cabling or whatever even old laptops.
If someone had some good things I would be willing to pay for the transport costs or if we could find some way then great!
I feel teaching the kids computers is extremely beneficial to their future and will give them a chance to get out of the mountains and get some good work if they can understand what to do from a young age, and as im their IT teacher I want to help them.
Many thanks people
