Happens pretty easily, when the plug is knackered and past its sell-by date. Metal brittle because of all the heat cycles then someone tugs on it from an angle.

yes it's a 13B renesis. I've just ordered 4 new plugs, hoping it will be trouble free for a bit longer. Although plugs should have been changed at the 3 year service. It's now 4.5 years old, and I've owned it for about half a year.

And I was wondering why my new magnecor HT lead wouldn't click in place...

Sometimes it can be if they have been fitted using a poor socket, causing a little damage.
