Hi all

Just had/having a problem with my pc, I switched it on earlier, fired up BF2 and started playing, all of a sudden i got sparklies all over the screen, then the game crashed back to desktop.

I figured it was probably too hot as it is a very warm and humid day here.

I've let it cool right down, unplugged everything, opened it up and given it a good dusting out. It was a bit dusty but nothing out of the ordinary really.

Anyway, after all this, fired it up and had the following distortion on the post screen and Windows loading screen:

When it got past this and into windows there was no display and the monitors switched off as though there was no signal.

I restarted and tried booting up into safe mode. This time it got into windows and the display on both screens (in clone mode) was fine.

Any thoughts? Is my graphics card dead? Could it just be a drivers problem? ( i did try installing the latest drivers but it didn't seem to help...)

Any help very much appreciated!

System spec as asked for

P4 2.8ghz
Geforce 7800GS OC AGP
2GB Ram

I realise it's an old system but it's been fine up until today.

How come display is fine when booting into safe mode?

Darn, been looking to upgrade in late september in time for bf3, looks like i'll have to do so earlier now!

Was hoping to keep this as a second pc to play bf2 with my girlfriend...

Are there any agp graphics cards i could look for that would be an upgrade from the 7800gs oc? Maybe second hand?

Might have to see if there are any cheap agp cards on mm. Any suggestions of decent models that might perform as well/better than the one that's just died?

Will still upgrade soon, pc has been running pretty slow of late...

Cheers, will have a look for those.

Also, just read up on my card to remind myself of spec, being a BFG card, turns out it has a life time warranty...might give them a call on monday and see if they'll do anything for me...I don't have much hope but got to be worth a call.

Think I'm going to have a look at what is involved with giving it a whirl in the oven to see if that fixes it, if it doesn't I'll get myself something second hand to get it back up and running until I upgrade in a few weeks time.

So...next question, what do I need to do to give it a go in the oven??? Any tutorials anywhere or any advice from people who have done it.
