i have been having trouble with my onboard sound, it has been giving me pip noises when playing mp3s and dvds, whether using onboard spdif or onboard sound output. I have a Gigabyte GA-8IPE 1000 pro G motherboard. I tried many things but i could not resolve it.

i installed a soundacard i used on my kids pc a SB audigy, i cant yet use the digital output as its a minijack connection and i was using an rca. so i connected my headphones to the output and what a huge difference between the onboard sound and the sb audigy. I am now getting no pips in my mp3s or hd movies or dvd even with cpu usage at 100% (to test it).

now am i likely to notice much difference if i connect the spdif on the audigy to the digital rca input on my home cinema amp. Are digital outputs all much the same or is there big improvements to be made?

should i stick with the audigy card or is there a better card i can buy for not a lot of money. my main priority is a quality spdif used for movie and hd movie soundtrack going to my home cinema amp.

cheers all

When u upgraded my pc,old creative soundcard wouldn`t work in it so i had to make do with onboard-it was horrific quality seriously.
Then i got an audiophile 2496 (this is for pro musicians wouldn`t reccomend it for you) and was blown away at the clarity and good sound.
I`d say just keep the audigy and find a way to connect up to amp
