Hi, I'm planning to get an av amp and surround speakers soon and I can't decide whether to get the Kef Kht1005 set now, or to get a pair of wharfedale 9.1 bookshelf speakers now and add another pair, a center and a sub later. Space is an issue at the moment so I like the idea of upgrading later, and also like the idea of better stereo performance (although this is mainly for movies).

Can anyone tell me whether the cheaper 9.0 series speakers would be adequate for the rest of the system? or would they be drowned out by the better fronts?

and

would a denon 1906 amp be adequate to drive these speakers?

Thanks

Good choice of amp. It would be plenty for any of those speakers.

If I was in your position I would think about getting a pair of floorstanding speakers now and adding the surround lot later. Do you specifically need bookshelf ones?

Later on, I would match a decent centre speaker to the fronts. The rears aren't as important so the cheaper ones would be fine IMO. Rear speakers won't be drowned out by the fronts because the fronts speakers are always in use whereas the rears are just for effects.
