hey ive got all my stereo stuff sorted now, and is costing a packet. but the place im going to cheapest speakers are £140. so im gonna pick some up my self and they will fit them.

i got a couple of choices, my budget is about £70 max for speakers.

they are gonna be run thru the head unit at first but im gonna get another amp later on to power them.

choices:

pioneer

alpine

6" JVC

cheaper the better but if they are realy worth the extra cash i can stretch.

if there are any on the site i missed that are good plz let me no

thx

i jus called in k and m acoustics in wigan, had a long chat.

the guy has reccomended i get 6x9s instead of front speakers, because of my £70 budget for speakers. he also says if i want front speakers its not realy much of an upgrade from my standard ones in my fiesta. he says not much point geting them unless im gonna get some good quality ones.

im geting some 6x9s from him for £60 to replace my broken ones.

will be going back later today to book in.

any comments before i do goback?

i think i read here in a previous post that if you have a sub you dont need 6x9s.

why is this?

I'd go against that advice to be quite honest. You can get a decent enough set of components and tweeters for £70 (I did for my saxo - alpine), that will be far better than any standard fit speakers in a low end car.

You don't want to go dragging the soundstage behind you with 6x9's, not to mention you'll lose a lot of mid and high-tones too.

There are a few reasons you don't want a sub and 6x9's. One is that 6x9's are better for low-range tones, as are subs (although subs will go far deeper). You don't need two sets of speakers for bass alone. Secondly, if a sub and 6x9's share the same volume of air, they essentiall fight each other.

Sub, + 6x9 on the shelf = no no. Get a quality set of components in the front and a sub and amp in the back is a good base system, you should be able to pick up decent components for 70 quid ish. amp up the components to move it to the next level.

ive actualy posted on talk audio but i dont get much response.

also i mentioned about the fighting for air and he said thats only realy gonna happen if ive got a lot ofair moving from a few subs, with 1 12" and the 6x9s it will be ok

he also said the 6x9s only do a small amount of bass and do the mids and highs.

the sub and the 6x9s will be at frequencies so wont be much problem

i do trust there advice as they are quite a reputable company and seems like the only stock the best equipment.

but i will have another chat about 6x9s

Some 6x9's do high-range, assuming they have a smaller cone as well as the main 6x9 cone. But no, they are designed for mid-to-low range.

I'd have reservations following the advice of any professional installer who recommends both 6x9's and a sub.

I recently purchased some Infinity 6510CS for about £60 brand new.

16.5cm I believe. Maybe to big for the Fiesta but they do also do smaller models.

They sound great and I would definitely recommend them to you.

me to! it will sound ok dont get me wrong. Just no-where near as good as good door speakers + sub system, then if you want it better than that, a quick amp under the seat will make decent components even better!

A decent set of components will sound loads better honestly, one of my cars had standard fronts and infinity kappa 6*9's. it sounded ok at best. then I put my 10" sub and amp in there and it sounded even worse. I sold the kappa's (very good 6*9's and put apline components in the front, sub in the back, and a 2 channel amp under the seat. cost me less than £200 + the sub and head unit I already had and sounded really great! Sounded much better than the 6*9's even running off the head unit with no amp.

Why not mail order and fit yourself, it really isn't difficult and you will get much better gear for your budget!

ok i sorted all out

am having my sub fited with some planet audio 6x9s(cost £100 but i got for 80), they do have a tweater on them but i have tweaters on my doors.

i posted on Ta forum and most have reccomended 6x9s because there is no point wasting a lot of money on front speakers if im not going to amp them up. which is what the guy said. he also said best way to make it louder basicaly is some 6x9s in the back.

am taking it in on tuesday, total cost for new stereo new 6x9s fitting sub and amp is £320.

Yea cause loud = good.

I will take SQ over how loud an install is any day of the week.

Components up front, you don't even need to amp them to make a huge diff to your setup.

Nice to see your soundstage is now totally shot!

A sub and component speakers are a much better choice than some 6x9s which imo are rubbish cos if you want bass buy a sub if you want good mid and high end buy decent components. Also you should really install them yourself as these are not difficult bits of kit to put in and will allow you to buy better kit.

That site sounds like it gives pretty crap advice tbh, 6x9s and sub = lol. Also you will hear a big improvement getting decent components even if they are run off the HU. They will be a lot more crisp even if they are not any louder. SQ wins for everyone except chavs.

.

TA must be going down the pan if thats what 'most' over there have recommended . I dont know too much about car audio, but i thought that was the golden rule (never put 6x9's in the back with a sub).... even then most people that are 'in to' car audio hate 6x9's dont they, why they would recomend them over components at the front is beyond me

well i got it all installed today

(6x9s 12" sub, amp, head unit)

and it sounds really good

its a hell of a lot better than what i had previous so im very happy. if i had gone for components its would be a lot quietter than what it is and i like to listen to it loud some times.

the standard front speakers and tweeters i had sound a lot better with this new head unit than my old.

when i picked it up he told me to not put the volume more than 23 (i think it goes up to 35) cos he said stuff mite start blowing up if i do. i think he means the amp cos its only a small one(70w, 2 channel).

not fully tested yet when i was driving home i couldnt work out how to get the ipod to work.

my next upgrade will be a 4 channel amp prob half way into the year to amp the speakers aswell.

one more thing. he said try not to play it loud with the boot open, anyone no why?

thx
