Speaker connection to PC

Currently infuriated by 3.5mm jacks that have to be fiddled around and then somehow physically secured in exactly the right position in order to transmit a decent signal. Why on earth hasn't the industry moved on to USB or optical connections for sound yet?

Because USB and optical are digital connections and sound is analogue, so there would have to be a DAC in whatever device you are connecting to
