I was re-setting up my speakers after decorating my living room and noticed when on DTS Neural X my speakers produce sound but when quieter, the sound seems quite muffled.

When louder noises or music, you don't notice it and it's only when you are right next to the speakers.

I switched modes and tried standard stereo and the sound is ok so I know the speakers and wires to be ok (I think)

Is this normal? Or is it something in the settings that is wrong?

It's a Denon amp and Canton speakers

I'm tempted to say that you're hearing the effects of audio processing that magics-up additional channels from a stereo or 5.1 source.

How does the Dolby Surround Upmixer setting sound?

Through the centre speaker it's perfect

Its just the surrounds that have it, same on the Dolby Surround setting.

This is whilst watching a SD program.

When I watch something in 4k through disney plus on neural x, the surround speakers are fine.

Is this just a processing effect?
