Surround sound help for newbie
Posted something along these lines a few days ago so must not have been clear. Since then I've read a lot but am still massively confused about a lot of things.
I've been sitting with some Creative T7700 speakers and my Audigy 2 ZS for a few years now. So I'm thinking it's time to upgrade, especially with digital sound, high definition movies, etc. So I could use some advice please.
The sound card is a relative no brainer. I barely play games and mainly play mp3s and watch films and tv on my pc (high def, dvd, etc). So for a soundcard I'll got for the X-Fi music oem card. For the speakers, well this is where the issues come into into it. Budget for actualy system is around £350. These are the options:
1) I'm told the best way to get good quality sound is to go for separates - the amp and some speakers. Would I then just use a rca cable to attach the x-fi to the amp via the digital out? What are people's experiences with doing this? (Yes, I've read the sticky in the av section of this forum)
2) All-in-one system. A number of people have recommended a 5.1 home theatre system with the dvdplayer et al. I'm worried this will be rubbish for music though, and getting a dvdplayer seems like a waste of money. Any people chosen this option?
3) PC speakers. A lot of people go on about the logitech g550 wireless 5.1 system. Is this any good?
Please can someone give me some advice on these options. Basically my goal is to enjoy digital surround sound so as to maximise movie/tv watching experience and to enhance mp3 playback. Thanks!
