Just wondering what you lot did for desktop speakers for your iMacs. I would love to get the Kef 300a's but they are a touch on the expensive side so was also looking at the B&W MM-1's as a slightly cheaper alternative.

Anything else I should consider?

thanks in advance :)

Depends what you'll want to use them for. If its just for standard stuff I'd go for the Aego Ms...in white providing its in budget :)

Speakers are to be used for music mainly as I have a headset for gaming, the Aego Ms look nice enough and are certainly in budget but I wanted to move away from having a separate sub and go for a 2.0 set up :)

My Main iMac

B&W 602S2 Fronts
B&W M-1 Rears
B&W LCR60 S3 Centre
BK XLS-400 sub.

It is quite loud if I want to be lol

My spare iMac

B&W M-1
driven by Musical Fidelity X-200 Amplifier.

Purely beacause the M-1 is from the HT (7.1) as I don't have space for it so running as 5.1 and using the spare M-1 in the bedroom.

Mac > DAC w/balanced XLR output and built in volume control > nearfield monitors

I used that for ages until I separated my set up so the 2.0 was totally independent from the computer (can still control it from here though).

Nearfields are great for computer use since you don't need a stereo amp and they're meant to be listened to up close.
