My dad's just upgraded the speakers on his hi-fi and, as such I thought I could his old speakers up to my computer. At the moment I've got a yamaha tss-1 5.1 surround connected, though the speakers on it are on the way out now. I know I can't connect the sony speakers directly up to the computer, but am unsure whether the main yamaha unit is an amp as such.

Additionally, the sonys have standard speaker wire connections whereas the yamaha has rca connections (can see the back of it here ). I've done some googling and I found this which might be what I need to convert it, but I really don't want 17ft of it! Does anyone know anywhere else I could get this sort of lead from (richer sounds?) or even if its the right lead I need?

EDIT: just to add that if this is possible I'd be running it as a 2.1 system rather than just replacing the fronts with these.

I would think that the main unit does act as the amplifier in this case. I'm not familiar with a converter cable of that type that is sold on the high street, but it shold be very easy to make one up with a little soldering.

If not, go on the hunt for a cheap stereo hi-fi amp second hand.
