Wondering if someone has any idea why this is happening, it's really annoying and means I have to power the PC off at the plug otherwise it's impossible to sleep! I will say the speakers perform without fault when PC is turned on, it's only when I shut it down that the speakers make a really annoying buzzing sound. Even with volume turned to minimum it can still be heard but not as loud.

Speakers: VideoLogic ZXR-500 5.1 surround
Motherboard: Abit NF7-S v2.0 with onboard Soundstorm

Thanks for any help.

Probably due to a grounding loop. Can be caused by other things plugged into the computer, like printer, monitor etc. Apparenlty plugging everything into a trailing extension should stop it.

I've got everything plugged into a surge protector, would adding an extention and plugging the speakers into that on their own help?

Going to try leaving just the speakers and PC plugged in on their own later see if that stops it.

Hi Chong Warrior,

I get the exact same thing, on my old Gigabyte NF4 motherboard it was quite significant when the pc was turned off, now in my DFi LANParty it's not so loud but still noticeable.

It stops when the speakers are unplugged from the motherboard or just turned off when the pc is off, I've found.

It's just a general motherboard thing, i think, it's worse with some than others, but it's always there as there is always some current running around inside the motherboard unless it's off at the wall socket or PSU. It could possibly just be electro-magnetic interference if you're using onboard sound between the audio circuits and the 5VSB circuit.

Sorry I can't be of more help in stopping it,

Banjo ;_;
