Looking for a set of speakers for the 6th form common room. budget is up to £300. The room is a large room, maybe 15m by 7m, and the speakers need to connect to a tv and a stereo. Also sometimes to a laptop or computer for use with a projector.

Do you have any recommened systems for this situation?

stereo? 5.1? 7.1?

What kind of amp do you currently have? because you'll need one. No integrated solution will fill that kind of space with any clarity.

we have no amp lol, a surround system is preferred, i've been looking at the z-5450's and the creative s750, are these any good?

Not for a room that size, you're looking at proper hi-fi standmounts and a decent amp, £400-£500 in total.

PC speakers won't be able to fill a room of that size with decent dB levels without distorting.

Go with some PA speakers. It'll only be a matter of time before someone overloads a dedicated stereo amp/speaker combo and fries a tweeter.

PA speakers won't have the resolution or subtlety, but will play loud, which will certainly impress the local students.

I dont know about that, in one of my classes at college, the room is around 20ft x 10ft, has about 40 computers in, big table in the middle, so dont know the exact room size, its about 5 times bigger than my room, and about 8ft up on the wall, either side of the area for the projector, there is this pair of small speakers, 4", made by a company called Promethion or something like that, and they fill the room with volume and the bass is ok for the level of sound and it can do loud, and i can gaurantee a speaker set like the Z5450 or Z5500 or S750 would put out a hella lot more volume and bass than them.

But i would choose PA stuff over PC speakers anyway :p

Look in a famous electronics shop beggining with M. They are doing a PA bundle for £200 which includes an amp, cables, 2 speakers and some speaker covers. Speakers are 10" drivers I think. It's a good deal, usually over £300.
