Speakers for iPod + laptop

This is for a friend because i cant stand iPods so i know nothing about what you can get for them. So basically he wants a speaker system that will work for both needs to be portable nothign to flashy but good sound quality.

Any help would be much appreciated!

You can't get portable and good quality out of speakers.

nope, if anything altec lansing make good ipod docks with quite good sound for its size, i'm sure its got a line in.

My brother's got an Altec Lansing IM3 which sounds surprisingly good for its size. It's got slightly weak bass and doesn't go that loud, but at reasonable volume levels it actually sounds quite good. I think Altec have a few updated models out now so they should be fine. As long as you're not expecting Hi-Fi quality you should be pleasantly surprised.

reading the reviews in the apple store, the ipod hifi is capable of input for ipod and also laptop/base station, can be mains or battery powered, and gives supposedly good sound for what it is,
