Ive got an A1 and some technics bookshelf speakers. Would it be worth it buying something like some mission M71s?

here are the speakers i have now

I would think that there are lots of speakers better than those. Is it an M.F. A1? if so you need to get some efficient speakers, though I did see a review when it was launched where they drove a huge pair of Magnaplaners,I used a pair of Kef Celeste with mine at first and then got a pair of British made 'Yorkshire hifi 3.1' which were not very efficient but had great bass which helped

thanks for the reply.

one thing i dont understand, on the back of them it says input 100w music 50w din

its just a standard A1 amp (not the mk3 or whatever it is version) yeh my mate has an A1 driving some floorstanding celestion speakers and they go very loud.

would it be worth me getting some B&W 601s or Jamo D265 speakers or something like that?

and finally... damn these are nice

mine also said 110V as it was one of the first ones released here.the amp took off so fast that M.F. could not keep up with the demand, they concentrated on the American market at first until people like me complained about waiting so long for it,esp. after all the good reviews it got. They just put in UK transformers into the American boxes they had made up.Antony Michaelson delivered the first batch himself, driving around the country in his very nice 7 series. They used to recommend a speaker called the Kelly Transducers which were very efficient. The amp is very good for acoustic instruments but not so for drum and bass. Those B&W look the dogs.

The MF A1 is an absolutely fantastic amplifier, it generally goes for <£100 on ebay and at that price I can't think of another amp I'd rather have.

You should ideally get some quite sensitive (efficient) speakers for the amp though, it's not hugely powerful.

He doesnt have a Musical Fidelity amp.

He has a Cambridge Audio amp.

EDIT:

Those 805s are pretty terrible. The 804s have wicked dynamics but I couldnt listen to anything they produced for more than 30 minutes - way too much fatigue.

What is your budget? M71s are pretty good for the money these days.

yeh i was gonna get the M71s a while ago. In fact I think i put a bid on a pair. Would they sound better than the ones I have now? there only rated to 70watts, does this matter or not?

Are you running a club or do you want high quality audio? Power doesnt matter - you really shouldnt listen at levels above 94dB anyway, and with modern speakers thats not something that takes much power at all (less than 10w easy).

Not with a Cambridge Audio A1. :)

yeh, didnt think so with an amp that was <£100

my mate managed to **** some people off right at the end of the road though with his A1 and acoustic solutions floorstanding speakers. we were all slightly drunk though and didnt notice it had been on almost full volume for 3hours :o

Full volume is somewhere you should just never go, it'll make a nasty mess of you speakers sending all that distorted rubish into them. I rarely take my Arcam past half way and never above 3/4 couldn't face damaging the B&W's!

Side note - Annoying poeple the other end of the street is neither big nor clever and certainly not funny so please refrain you'll give hi-fi enthusists a bad name. It's about quality of sound not quantity if all you want is loud go and buy a cheap PA system!
