I've never had a system for a pc so if the questions sound silly you know why.

Just bought the dell 34dw monitor.

Do you need a sound card?
What would be a good system?

You're definitely looking at secondhand as new budget 5.1 are around £400 and that doesn't include a avr which usually start at £300 (avrs have now increased in price)
