Speakers on board

I had a pair of Trust laptop speakers that I cart round during LAN's. The other day one fell off the PC case in the middle of the night. After I changed my PJ's I decided to put them inside the case. I ended up using one fo the P182 blanking covers and glued the drivers and the USB amp to the back. At the same time I used a nice mter to use as an HDD usage guide instead of the flipping flashing blue LED from hell. I sleep in front of the case and needed a break from the disco lighting. Here's a shot the end result.

That looks so much better than the 5 1/4" speakers that I have seen sold.

Now you have to convince your mates that you built it and not bought it.

Thanks.

I use the speakers for everyday sounds, i.e background music and gaming at night when I don't want to be wearing headphones. I have the speakers calibrated to be bright as I always keep the door of my P182 shut. Proper playback is through my HT system via the coax on the mobo or headphones.

The speakers were once a pair of Trust laptop speakers costing a mere £8.50 from Tesco. They are entirely USB powered and fed.

The meter is an RS component from Radio Spares part number: 259-561 (miniature edge meter MR100 Scale 0-10) The variable resistor I used is a 100k LIN and the meter is driven directly from the mobo's HDD LED O/P with current limited by the pot.)

For those interested, here how I did it.

It is well handy having them onboard. They're always there for a LAN etc. They are fine for background stuff and OK for music when the door is open. The meter is much better than an LED flashing all the time too. Go for it.

Thanks, much appreciated. I might modify it later. Last night I went back to 163 drivers for my 8800. The computer just sat there in an endless loop at start up. I had to reset the bios which is a pain based on the location of the case etc so I might put it a pair of buttons in series so you have to press both to reset the bios.
