Tried the "official" spec me thread but as somebody indicated it got lost in the flood of posts :)

just looking to upgrade my tower and switch back from amd

i was looking at the q9450 or q9550 depending on how much they drop in the rumoured price cuts.

i am trying to make it as future proof as possible so was initially looking at ddr3 but having looked at the negligable performance increase have been a little put off.

thanks a lot that

i typically use microsoft visual studio 2005 - 08 so as far as i know they are 64bit compatible.

wait for the price cuts. the q9450 will be obsolete and the q9550 should be around the same price as the 9450 is now.

I would also wait for the 4870x2 as they should be around a similar price as two 4870's but we will see.

Assuming they are similar prices then you could get something like this
Doh missed the psu

I would say mp260767 is very good, but if you can afford to go to £1k then get one of the x38 or x48 asus ROG boards.
