Bro wants a gaming system for 500 and im to look at building one for him. Im not up to date with the prices and specs really.

Lookin for intel at least and quad core and somit to overclock so get good bang for buck.

Lookin for a good but not amazing gfx card, nvidia im thinking with a gig of vram.

4gb ram

probs a 1tb sata drive probs samsung as i dont trust seagate and wd are too expensive imo.

not sure if sound card is needed as he doesnt have decent speakers.

He already has a tft and kb and mouse.

Couple of options below, AMD and Intel build, tried to offer most items.

The difference between the 768MB and 1GB GTX460 is very small - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/156?vs=180

I dont think ill go sandybridge route due to issues i heard about i might go core 2 quad and lookin for an asus mb thats good for overclocking as most likely 2nd hand from mm it will come from as new mbs cost far too much when u can get decent mb for 40 ish used like i did with my setup some years ago.

Dont need a gaming case just a 30 quid one probs do.

Thanks for the reply.

Btw sry if i sound ungrateful its just i got an idea of what the parts are just wondering whats the best setup that ppl would recommend for 500 ish (might get it all 2nd hand from mm tho).

Its more expensive for less performance, it needs over clocking just to match the stock 2400 cpu performance.

as shown here - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i5-2500-2400-2300_7.html#sect0

One option is to look out for a 2nd hand Q6600 and a P45 board from the MM.
Had my Q6600 @ 3.4-3.6ghz.

Missed the bit regards Seagate, skim read that part and computed as WD were to expensive!!

Case is good because it comes with a power supply.

Like you wanted
Could change the hard drive to this to fit budget: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-206-SE

Yeah im thinking of just copying my system which would probably be buildable for 300 and get a 460 card or somit, still im interested in builds ppl post to consider.

Samsung dvd rw sata for 13 quid seems good didnt think they were that cheap new.

As stated samsung HDD only so the seagates arnt an option as i dont trust em. And as RJC said i didnt want WD as their expensive compared to SS.

Hopefully theirs a corsair 600w psu about 2nd hand for 50 quid or so.

Case i might be able to reuse i duno, depends on what bro wants. If he wants a new one ill get somit like

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-068-SV&groupid=701&catid=7&subcat=

Am i being paranoid with sandybridges i mean whats the issues with em as i just know about the sata ports and somit to do with volts not being able to go too high or somit. Can i get a mb with cpu and overclock it like i normally would (my Q6600 with asus p5kc for example to 3.2ghz methods). I mean ill consider getting the better cpu u said but only if its no problem to overclock it with a 20 quid cooler like tuniq tower or somit similar.

4 of the sata2.0 ports can maybe fail, less than 5% chance of this happening.

all the others are fine.

Much better

Skeeter don't you like the above build.

Its interesting but i avoid ati cards as i had no end of problems forcing AA in games when i used to use em. Nvidia only cos i like the drivers and control panel and nvidia inspector to force aa and other hidden settings.

And with a cpu and mb which the cpu id probs get a Q6600 GO for 80 quid used and find a similar mb as i used Asus p5kc for 30 quid used i think i payed in mm.

Thanks for trying a build tho just still not quite spec wise as i said in my OP like nvidia only and stuff. Plus the dvdrw is a bit pricy and i might not need one if the mb has ide as id just reuse the liteon he has.

Also im not sure why i get ocuk prices when mm prices will do or should i say prefered (guess i should have stated this at the start hehe as id probs never buy brand new hardware as u can get so much more for ur money used)

The other option is to look at AMD.

Had a look earlier in the MM for the Q6600 and some have gone for £60 ~
