Basically I have been asked to look for an AGP graphic card in the £100 region.
Upgrading motherboard, etc is quite simply out of the question.
It needs to be beefy enough to play F.E.A.R. - not at max settings, but with some eye candy turned out at Medium settings, perhaps.
Processor is a P4 2.4GHz, which I might be able to persuade them to overclock. It has 1gb of RAM, and it currently has an AGP Nvidia 5700LE.
It plays F.E.A.R. at low settings, at 1024x768 ok - but with barely any eye candy. It rarely jerks, but not enough to warrant lowering the resoloution further. TBH, I think reinstalling chipset drivers could help the jerking.
The card will likely be purchased next month - by which time, I'm hoping AGP cards will come down in price a little more.
Currently the OcUK GeForce 6600 GT 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-036-OK) (at £111.57 inc. VAT) looks like our best bet. Not sure how I go about unlocking pipelines etc - I will look into that, as the time comes closer.
