I like doing this in my spare time, (i have a lot of spare time :) ) trying to spec a PC that would be used for different reasons such as Gaming, video editing, Media PC

E.T.C

ANYWAYS you people in the forum, build a spec for a GAMING COMPUTER, i want to see what different PC parts people choose and MOST IMPORTANT DESCRIBED WHY YOU CHOSE EACH PART, i just recently bought some PC parts (if you look at my previous thread my parts would be listed there) and cannot wait to get stuck in because it will be my first build. lolz this would help me so i can tell my friends on how to choose a pc that will fit your needs and also for future builds :)

i didnt spec a keyboard or mouse but the price factors that in, i find mice and keyboards are very personal things so you'd have to pick your own

wow lolz nice!!!! i was expecting some SSD tbh.. but still that would make a kick ass gaming rig

from my build, you could get a ssd for bootdrive but you'd lose the BR drive
i specced the velociraptor due to size + performance over a normal 7200rpm drive, and the storage would hold most games without worry and it beats ssd ;)

if he had said price per gigabyte, I wouldn't argue.

but a good SSD destroys a mechanical drive.

yeah sorry i meant price per GB, i think i read somewhere that 2 velociraptors in a raid array would smash a ssd but i cant remember the links

I read in current CustomPC mag that there is a 10x difference just in seek time and that raid array in real world use gives a very small performance increased. As echoed above synthetic benchmarks don't compare to actual usage.

My soon to be new build shaping up something like:

Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz (Bloomfield) (Socket LGA1366) - OEM
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
Kingston HyperX 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3-12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel (KHX1600C9D3K3/6GX)
Akasa AK-CCX-4001HP Nero S Direct Contact Heatpipe CPU Cooler (Socket AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / LGA775 / LGA1156 / LGA1366 )

Seasonic X-750 Modular '80 Plus Gold Certified' 750W Power Supply
Coolermaster ATCS 840 Classic Case - Black

Crucial RealSSD C300 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive (CTFDDAC128MAG-1G1)
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103SJ)

Asus Xonar DX 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card (90-YAA060-1UAN00Z)

I am reusing my 24" monitor, 5870 (almost new card in old pc), Win7 64 retail, Gaming Keyboard and mouse. And I may need to add a few extra fans yet for that case

Currently £1300 and rising. You could easily spend £800 just on that bits that I am reusing and go for a Crossfire set up.

NB - I am not the best person to ask for spec me's, put my hand up to that.

My 2p
