If you guys have got a spare ten minutes could you spec a pc for my mate.
His budget is £500 and he wants it primarily for gaming.

he will need os, but he already has a monitor + peripherals. And no, he has no other parts lying around, so needs a full complete system

Still a bit over budget. As fowler says the HDD takes a massive proportion of the budget, especially if Windows 7 is needed. Is there anyone you or he knows who could get a copy of Win7 from software4students? I'd advise he tries to save up a bit more, closer to £600 and buy something along the lines of what fowler has suggested in #5. Also a GTX560Ti can be had for not much more than the HIS 6870 too so worth shopping around.
