Spec a pc.

Needing a gamer pc, 500 max, inc case/psu/mobo/gfx/ram/etc.

No monitor or perhiperals, ive tried to have a look but im out of date on the current technology and which is best etc. Thanks in advance.

If I was you I would

Seriously consider spending a bit more , would def want a q6600 and ati 4850
there is one at 623 without os in the overclocked section , alternatively you could go with one of their value pcs with 8600gt in or i think you can put a 4850 in some of them that will come in under 500 . I'm a big fan of overclocked q6600 those babies fly.
look out for the this weeks offers as they sometimes have a q6600 machine for just over 500

Its a tad over but a decent system. Also im gussing you gaming on screen below 22".

Not a bad spec above. I'd change the HDD to a Samsung Spinpoint F1 320gb - slightly less storage, but it's faster (and cheaper). If you need more space, get the 640gb version.

same as above but im sure you can stretch to the samsung f1 640gb which is faster than the 500gig, or if you cant then the 320gig like namistai said
