Hi :), I’d like to build a half decent gaming machine that has loads of upgrade potential (future upgrades might include water cooling, SLI, Crossfire etc).
I already have a graphics card, monitor, peripherals, and OS
Budget is £1000, ideally I don’t want the cost near that.

I’m looking at getting these components at the moment and would like to know if these will go well together and what you think needs to be changed:

CPU: I5 2500K

CPU cooler: Antec Kúhler H2O 620 CPU Watercooler (looking for something quiet, allows a good overclock and doesn’t obstruct any RAM slots)

MB: Asrock Z68 Extreme4 gen3 (should I wait and see how good the Extreme7 is?)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600mz (what is the difference between this and cheap ram like Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB?:o)

SSD: Crucial Real SSD M4 128GB or Corsair Force Series3 120GB (which is better? When the SSD fills up I’ll add a HDD)

Optical Drive: Samsung SH-B123L/BSBP

Case: Corsair Obsidian 800D (I really like the look of this and I’m aiming for something huge that is hopefully not a dust magnet)

PSU: Corsair Professional series 850w ‘80plus gold’ modular (I need something reliable with long enough cables to reach round the back of the MB tray. Does this kind of 850w exist or will I have to buy extensions?)

Thank you for taking the time to look at this. If there are things you would change, could you also please explain why your alternative is better.

Thanks:D

There is a slight difference in timings but its not something you are going notice, and of course the corsair stuff has very large heat sinks. They are both £47.99 at the moment. So go with which ever you like as long as you go with a cooler like the one you have listed :)

Kingston - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-094-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1517

Both are on this week only though and the deals change tomorrow, so the prices on both will change from tomorrow when the new deals are posted.

Why not something like this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-039-OC&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=1098

Its cheaper than the Corsair and i can confirm has pretty long cables, i own it and a CM 690 II and it reaches with some slack round the mobo tray in that case.

At the moment, just an old 512MB DDR2 ASUS EAH4350 SILENT. I’ll be looking to get a nice little GPU for gaming soon. Right now I just need a decent PC that will go well with a high end next gen GPU, be upgradeable, and will be fairly future proof.

Thanks for your help:). I’d prefer a modular PSU. Corsairs products in general, including this PSU, seem to have a lot of good reviews so I think I’ll stick with it for now.

I’d prefer a modular PSU.

That OCZ Z series is partially modular.
