I'm going to upgrade in the next month so I just wanted initial thoughts on what I had planned:

I'm working to a budget of about £600 (this comes in at £650ish). The only thing staying from my previous machine is the case and hard drives.

Just a few questions:
1) This will all fit easily in a Lian Li PC60? It is the older model with 2 intake fans on the front if that makes any difference
2) Enough power for another 4 HDDs (750GB, 200GB, 2 * 320GB)?
3) My thinking with the WD is that I want a new small HDD to use as main partition, gone for the smallest with a 16mb cache, I went raid edition because it has longer warranty and slightly better seek time for virtually no difference in cost. Sound ok?
4) Any eta on 8800GT stock - I mean sensible levels so the price drops a bit. Currently £180 for this is a little too much. Would I notice a major difference if I got the 3870? I don't actually game all that much, too busy, but I would like to have all the eye candy when I do - plus I only game at 1280*1024. Looking at the 3870 benchmarks it does seem to struggle to get 60fps in newer games even at this res. Perhaps I misread them? Though 3870s lower power is slightly attractive if it is going to be idle a lot.

Thanks for any help,

n.b. as far as overclocking, I like to tinker a little but nothing major. I would buy a new HSF before going down this road.

Don't know about anything else but I'd get the 3870 - the difference between that and the 8800GT at your resolution will be minimal plus it's cheaper and much more likely to be in stock.

I agree with bibalasvegas, having read many reviews comparing them (and taking into account how much you game), I would get the 3870, especially if its going to make life easier availability wise. Dont get me wrong its still a great card, in fact I read a decent review comparing it with other cards the other day

I thoroughly suggest skimming through it before you make your decision :).

As for the Lian Li, I wouldnt like to say, but i see no obvious reason as to why it wouldnt fit.

If you are considering overclocking, I would get 2GBs of RAM and invest the left over cash in a decent third party heatsink (i personally like the thermalright 120 ultra). I think having 4GBs of RAM can limit an overclock. HTH
