Qaboy needs an MP3 player but he doesn't have a computer at home.
What he needs is an MP3 player that is recognised by windows XP without any external drivers being installed and then he can drag and drop onto it.
The music files will not be able to be tagged so he will want the files to be dragged as they are.
My Archos Multimedia Jukebox 20 does this but they no longer make them.
He also only needs up to 2 gig but any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks

Have a (great) 512MB Creative MuVo TX & it doesn't require any drivers! Simply plug-in then drag & drop, even in folders :) Don't know if the newer ones are the same (here) ;)

I'm also looking for the same thing, my iriver ihp-i40 has died and need something similar as a replacement. :( Seems like most mp3 players require annoying software to control uploading of music to operate. :(

Having a player that can drag and drop is not only beneficial for easy directory structure organisation, it's also very handy for file backup and storing drivers etc for re-installation of windows via USB mass storage.

THe Sansa E200 range gives you the best of both.

It is mode switchable by menu between MTP mode and simple USB storage.

So you can swith it to work with Rhaposdy, iTunes etc and then plain USB :)

All very simple and it's a great sound and good vid quality for the price of other photo-only solutions !!!

But will it do what I asked in the OP?

Will XP recognise it immediately without installing drivers and you don't need any other software other than dragging and dropping in a file manager?

must admit i'm only guessing it does. i have an xs202s (20gb model) and it looks to have exactly the same features as that model for sale - mine just shows up as the next available drive letter when i plug it in via usb. the drive is formatted as fat32 and i just use drag and drop.

maybe ask the seller to confirm but i'm pretty certain it does what you want. :)

Thanks everybody. I've only got a works PC and I can copy from my PC cd drive to my USB card and camera without any extra drivers or software installed. So I need an MP3 player that will do the same which is recognised with XP's own drivers and no extra software installed. Archos sounds good. Any other positive suggestions welcome. DMP says that Apples need drivers, software and tagging to work so those are out of the window. Thanks.
