Evening guys, I'm just looking to help my dad out in getting him an office PC. It will be primarily used for surfing the web, using MS Office and occasionally stream from iPlayer etc.

My build for him so far is (minus office and os)

Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £49.99

Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM - £41.99

M-ATX Motherboard Gigabyte H81M-D2V Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 £40.99

Corsair Builder Series CX 430W V2 '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £34.99

Kingston HyperX Fury Blue 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Single Channel Kit (HX313C9F/4) - £31.99

Zalman T1U3 Mini-Tower USB 3.0 - Black Zalman T1U3 Mini-Tower USB 3.0 - Black - £20.99

LG GH24NSB0 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - £13.99

There isn't anything else I need? Surely for that light workload he doesn't need a GPU?

Cheers

Looks fine to me, you could go for a decent PSU (SuperFlower HX 350W) which'll probably last longer and has better internals etc

Maybe some faster RAM too? Though this isn't really needed

An SSD would be good, make everything much more snappy, and an office PC I doubt will be overclocked so go for a normal pentium?

How about this;

YOUR BASKET
1 x Crucial MX100 256GB SATA 2.5” 7mm SSD + 9.5mm Adapter (CT256MX100SSD1) £79.99
1 x Intel Pentium G3220 3.0GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £41.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 350W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £41.99
1 x Asus H81M-PLUS Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £40.99
2 x TeamGroup Elite 2GB (1x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Single Channel Module (TED32GM1600C1101) £14.99 (£29.98)
Total : £244.54 (includes shipping : £8.00).

+ your choice of case
(no optical drive also, if needed then add it on)

Will he use more than 256GB of storage? It doesn't really sound like it?
4GB will be more than enough for an office PC
Onboard GPU will suffice, I have this pentium in another PC and copes just fine for office work :)

He needs absolutely everything that comes inside the case plus the case, peripherals are sorted. Budget is as low as possible without buying poor quality goods.

Would he ever use more than 256GB of storage including programs and OS? If not, definitely go SSD

He needs a 1TB hard drive, that was one of his requirements, in fact I think it was his only requirement. That and Windows 7 + MS Office Pro

Ah okay, so how about this?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) HDD £41.99
1 x Intel Pentium G3220 3.0GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £41.99

1 x TeamGroup Elite 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Single Channel Module (TED34GM1600C1101) £29.99
1 x BitFenix Neos ATX Tower Black/Black £29.99
Total : £240.43 (includes shipping : £11.25).

This allows it so you can add another 4GB DIMM in the future if he ever wants 8GB RAM

and a better PSU, which you get free delivery with (case + SuperFlower PSU) http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18630207

Mobo has a decent range of video outputs (HDMI, DVI, VGA)
