Hello all,

My friend wants to get into gaming on pc and move away from consoles, as he's only wanting to dip his toes in he's set me the challenge of only having £300, is this even possible???

Doesn't need a monitor as he wants to use his tv for now, will need everything else.

Many thanks to all that can take on this challenge.

that's an incredibly tight budget! cheapest spec id recommend is the £350 one in my signature, does he not have any parts already he can re-use? also idk if he's aware or not how slow TV's seem to respond when you're using mouse and keyboard :p

one issue is at £300 you have to make upgrade-ability sacrifices as well as current ones

i agree, 2nd hand would be the best, especially as you have access to the MM.

if not then this is my 2p:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Seagate SSHD 7200RPM 3.5" 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DX001) SSHD Hybrid Drive £58.99
1 x TeamGroup Elite Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C11 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (TED38GM1600HC11DC01) £55.99
1 x **B Grade** Sapphire Radeon R7 260X OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (11222-06-20G) £49.99
1 x Intel Pentium K Anniversary G3258 Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £43.99
1 x Asus H81M-E Intel H81 (Socket 1150) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard £39.95
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 430W V2 '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020046-UK) £29.99
1 x Zalman T1 Plus Mini-Tower USB 3.0 - Black £19.99
1 x LG GH24NSB0 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £13.99
Total : £312.89 (includes shipping : ).

pentium AE + a b-grade 260x
the easiest way to slash costs is to get a 2nd hand set of ram. a 2x4gb 2nd hand in the mm goes for 40 quid. that brings it back down to sub £300.
i specced a sshd as this is a much better option than just a hdd (faster and more responsive)

Well, I built a budget rig for £300. The following parts (though different brand of memory, not stocked at OCUK);
YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte 970A-UD3P AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £65.99
1 x BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Windowed Case - Black/Green £59.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD £41.98
1 x BeQuiet Pure Power L8 400W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply - With 120mm Silent Wing Fan Built in £39.95
1 x Kingston HyperX Fury Black 4GB (1x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C10 1600MHz Single Channel Kit (HX316C10FB/4) £32.99
1 x LG GH24NSB0 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £13.99
Total : £254.88 (includes shipping : ).

Then a used Athlon 270 CPU for £12, a used GTX 560Ti for £21, and a Xigmatek Thor's Hammer cooler for £16 (new). So £304 total. But another £70 for Windows

You can save money swapping in the following;
YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte 970A-DS3P AMD 970A (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £50.99
1 x BitFenix Neos ATX Tower Black/Blue £29.99
1 x Antec VP450P 450W '80 Plus' Continuous Power Supply £19.79
Total : £100.76 (includes shipping : ).

And that brings you to around £180 spent. Add windows for £70 leaves you with £50 for a cheap used AM3+ CPU/cooler and GPU (suggest Athlon x4 for around £25, and GTX 560 or Ti for around £35 if you're lucky). Plus then a cheap keyboard and mouse.

Needs a bit more cash, to be honest.
