Trying to spec up a system to replace my "main" pc so that it can replace my "old" secondary system. Current main system is around 2yrs old and cost roughly £2k, rough spec is q6600, 8gb ram, 9800gx2 etc, still good, but time for a new system so I can drop my old Athlon X2 system.

Budget is £1200 give or take. Main role is a gaming machine, already got a 24" screen I'm using atm (1920 x 1200). I play a lot of eve online and like to run multiple clients (4 or so) on the one box at full res which was why I chose 8gb ram for my last system. Also like to play fairly new FPS games and playing on high settings @ 1920 x 1200 is pretty much a must. Not sure if I should go 6gb or 12gb on the new system or if the extra 6gb is a waste of cash.

Anyway, spec time: Already have 24" tft and x64 Win 7 to be recycled.

Code:
CPU	i7 920 £174.99
GPU	Sapphire 5850 Toxic £259.99
Mobo	Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R £156.98
RAM	OCZ Gold 6gb 3 x 2gb 12800	£138.99
PSU	Seasonic X-650 Modular £125.98
Case	Antec p193 £125 ish
HD	Samsing SpinPoint F3 1TB	£57.97
Sound	Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music	£54.99
Cooler	Freezer 7 Pro rev2 £18.99
DVDR	Generic Samsung DVDR £14.99

		             £1,120ish

Chose the 5850 toxic as the vapor-x is pre-order only and not sure the 5870 is worth another £100. I'm not planning on oc'ing really, not oc'd my prev system yet, so doubt I'll bother oc'ing this one for a couple of years. Chose Seasonic PSU as I've always found their PSUs solid, but will happily substitute for a cheaper one if it's still good. System will be on 24/7, and Seasonic PSUs normally have 80 - 85% efficiency. Not fussed about SSDs, would rather spend the £300 on something else. Got a bit of room in my budget, but hitting £1200 to the penny doesn't bother me too much :). Main questions are is a 5870 worth the extra cash, and should I consider 12gb RAM? I've only ever seen my current pc hit 6.5gb ram usage in Vista once with 5 eve clients, so maybe not, but just thinking about stuff in the future.

Any input much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

How about the Asus ATI Radeon HD 5850 DirectCU, Asus are really good with overclocking. And I would say just stick with 1 5850 and get another somewhere down the line. Rest is Just fine.
