right after reading thru a lot of threads on this forums and others i've come up with this list. i just need some advice on the case/psu and the mobo. i want to keepthe total costs below £950 if poss and have a decent system. do all the parts work well together and is the 500W psu powerful enough ?

cheers guys. :)

As far as PSU's go, most people here recommend Corsair, either

The 520w for £68.14 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-005-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=823

or

620w at £88.11- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-004-CS&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=823

However, if you don't need a modular PSU, the range PCP&C are first class -610w (670w peak) at £64.61 - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-002-PP&groupid=701&catid=123&subcat=928

The Antec PSU is easily sufficient but if you want to change PSU and/or case then the Corsairs as recommended by JackRegan are a good choice.

Do you have an additional CPU cooler in mind since you have the AS5 as well? If not then you could probably drop the AS5 since the retail CPUs come with thermal paste/pad pre-applied.

I'm also not sure I'd bother with that soundcard, I don't know much about it but I've got my suspicions it won't be much better than onboard or if you do want a separate soundcard then I'd suggest saving a bit extra and going for an Audigy.

yeh forgot the arctic cooling freezer 7. heh

with the mobo is it an abit with with a re-badge ? and what is the mobo like with the cpu and downloading bios etc. i know i had a msi mobo before and it was a nightmare to get the latest bios download.

also with 5.1 headset i've listed will that run off the onboard 7.1 ? i ont know anything about soundcards as i use a cambridge audio amp and studio monitors for music.

thanks for the help guys mucho appreciated

The 7.1 sound from the motherboard is likely to be better than the 5.1 sound card in your basket. You probably shouldn't bother. :) But other than that - good spec! The headphones should work fine with the onboard audio - just configure it to 5.1.

Seem to have lost the first bit of my post.

The OCUK motherboard is new and a untested. The Abit IP35-E is the same price and the Asus P5K is just a little more, worth considering when taking into account of bios and driver updates.

Cases are down to personal preference IMO. However, I don't know much about the PSU in the one you listed. The PSU is the backbone of any sysytem and an area you don't want to cut back on.

Have a look at a Lian Li PC7, quality build at a good price, with a PSu detailed in my first post.

jackregan cheers matey i was thinking that about the OCUK mobo as well. gone for the pk5.

with the case and the power supply thats where i thought i can save afew pounds as orignaly i was gonna go for the antec 900 and the ocz 600w psu but thought i could save money with this case. is that a bad idea and should i spend abit more on case and psu ?

Have a look in the case section of the foum and read some reviews and go for one you like. I am a bit boring as far as cases goes, I have Lian Li's and an Akasa Eclipse 62.

Go with quality for the PSU though. You won't go far wrong with the three I've listed.

If you like the Antec case you could always sell the PSU and recoup some money or keep it as a spare.

right this is what im gonna get plus afew cheapo fans for another case. thanks for the help guys much appreciated. when i spend a lot of money on something i wanna know that it will perform for the task and that im not over paying. thats why im not going a super case cos i just dont think its worth my hard earned money plus i want it nice and simple. with the psu and them wicked little 12cm fans the case should be fine. all should 'hopfuly' fit in hehe.

Did a bit of research on the PSU (Antec Earthpower 500w) in question when I bought my rig. It's a very solid PSU making that case an aboslute bargain. A bit of reading around will show you it has (iirc) a total of 34amps over its 12v rails and it more than powerful enough for your rig. And it's quiet. It's running my spec fine.

The Corsair's have 3 x 12v rails at 18a each and the PCP&C has 1 x 60a 12v rail.

It is a minor correction and doesn't matter hugely but the Corsairs have no internal limitation on the rails so they don't actually get split as such, it is just one large rail of around 50A total. The JonnyGuru review of the PSUs contains more information about this.

That's good to know, thanks for that.

I'd change the DVD writer to a Pioneer. Just a minor change, but they are supposed to be the best, and I have a similar Samsung one here and it is noisy. Also change the Notua fan for a Sharkoon 2000 (120mm), they shift more air at a lower noise.
