Hey,

Can you try make this cheaper? Used for Office work and then upgrade a few months later with a ATI X850.

Instead of getting GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) could I get a GeIL 512MB PC3200 Value and then buy another one later. Would I still get the same performance of the GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) Dual Channel?

AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 90nm (Socket 939) - Retail
Asus Vintage AH1 Barebones System - AMD Socket 939
GeIL 1GB (2x512MB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS2.5
Samsung SpinPoint P 80GB SATA-II 8MB
Asus DVD-E616P1 16X DVD-ROM / 48X CD-ROM - Retail

£401.95 inc. P&P

Thanks,

whats the point of having a pc that powerfull just to use firefox (or ie5) a word pro' program excel etc etc etc just get a 2600+ sempron system and save urself lots of money :)???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

practically any 2 sticks shoud be able to run in dual channel, even if they were different speeds, they would both just run at the speed of the slowest. the dual channel pack is literally just 2 512mb sticks, though have probs been tested a bit more together. tbh you wouldnt see any difference by just buyin 2 random geil 512mb sticks.

but yeah if your not doing a great deal with it, i cant see why you'd need that cpu, unless you were planning on gaming later when you get the X850

i'd be a bit more careful about buying ram at different times. had 2x ballistix 512 pc4000 sets come through about 5 months apart, but one set had ramchips on both sides of the spreader and the other only on one side. they did not work in dualchannel.

ah ive heard about that, that if one stick has chips on both sides and the other stick doesnt then dual channel wont work. but majority of sticks do have them on both sides now days dont they?

now that 1gb sticks are more common, it is cheaper to produce 512's with only one side having chips.

what are the asus systems like? would it be worth putting a 3700 in one or would it be better to get a value case/mobo/psu and a slower processor?
