I'm going for a completely new spec with the only salvageable part being an extra 250 GB hard drive for data storage.

So is this a sound spec? Anything unnecessary I could slim down on, or exchange for something better? Is this fine for light overclocking? Is this a good time to build (another "conroe" around the corner :P )

Nice selections there, I think though that you should swap the 7900 for a X1950 Pro instead. It would offer better performance for the same price! :)

Well I would pick X1950, but I use Linux (ubuntu) a lot and ATI's driver support is very poor relative (lol pun) to Nvidia's.
