hi, i'm looking to build a pc for mainly music production (running cubase) but also for some gaming :) I'd like to be able to overclock the cpu to at least 3.4Ghz. does the below spec look like it would all work together? I know the case is a little overkill but at some point I would like to watercool the system so I went for a huge case - plus it looks cool :D

One thing i'm not too sure about is a cpu cooler - could somebody recommend one?

Lastly, i believe there is a price cut on the processors on the 16th october? Any idea how much this will be, coz if its a matter of £10-20 I don't think i'll bother waiting. Am upgrading from an amd 4400+ so am hoping for a big increase in speed!

First of all welcome to the forums.

Second, that's a nice setup you have listed and I can't really see any improvements over what you've listed. Only perhaps getting a cheaper CPU and overclocking it as you can save a bit of money there.

I would recommend the Noctua NH-U12P, or Thermalright Ultra-120 for cooling the CPU. They are fantastic coolers, check reviews on google on both. A review of the Noctua is on my website: www.vortez.co.uk as is the Twelve Hundred case. You don't be disappointed - money well spent.

Any questions just shout up, everyone is friendly here :)

cool thanks for that mishima - will check out those reviews on your website as soon as my manager leaves the room for a bit ;)

I do actually have one other small question regarding the motherboard - I'm really a bit confused about the various pci express slots on it - it has 3 slots, but 1 is different from the other 2, but I don't quite understand the difference (except for the fact that its blue!) Also would I be able to fit 2 graphics cards in crossfire and still have space to use the 2 pci slots (i need these for sound cards)?

Thanks :)

You can run xfire on that board, the only thing you need to consider is that the PCI-E slots will run at x8 and not x16.. although they are PCI-E 2 not PCI-E 1 so I dont think it makes a huge difference (I havent seen anything to say it does) although maybe someone will correct me :)
