Hi
Just trying to spec a new game machine for myself, have budget of around £550, any pointers on this spec?

Thanks in advance ;)
PS needs to be in stock so I can order this morning :)

I'm running a similar setup with that PSU, so it should be fine - although why not get the 550W version for future upgrades ?

Could go down to a 500Gb HDD, you can always stick a 1Tb in later for extra storage and save yourself 30ish quid now. If you were desperate to bring the cost down you could go with 2Gb RAM as well and buy another stick when you're less skint

You could try the Phenom II 550 which is a dual-core processor not quad, although it would seem people that people have managed to unlock the extra cores. There would be a £50 saving and it also a black edition. Also the 720 which is tri-core for a £30 saving.

Other than that you could switch back to your original choice of motherboard, and a smaller capacity hard drive would save you a ££.

Thanks for replies, I think I am going just go for it and erm not show the wife the bill :P
"DragonFly Fawlty"

I'm currently running an old AMD Sempron 3000+ with 2gb Ram and an old Sapphire Ati X1650 512mb card.
Without stating the obvious, I am guessing I will be noticing a considerable improvement all round ??:P

If I were you Id look at this case incl PSU, its much better case, PSU not quite as good as the Corsair but its still perfectly adequate, that'll save you £24 and you get better case to boot

To answer the above: you will definately notice an improvement. It's a joyous occasion once the stable overclock has been found and you can settle down to just enjoying a very fast computer.

Thanks for your assistance everyone, I am going to order it now with that case/psu package. I can always upgrade the psu at a later date if I want to.
Off work tomorrow to wait in for my delivery, Xmas has come early:p
Far too excited now as well:D

There will be a huge performance gain all around.

What OS are you going to be using ?

I have a copy of Window 7 Home Premium (32 bit) sitting unopened in it's box at home.

I am also lucky enough to have Windows 7 RC Ultimate but I have that installed on the old machine and I am not sure if the key will let me install again?

Hope you not going to tell me I need x64bit version:eek:

You can use the same RC key to install Win7 - but it will expire in March, after which you will have to reinstall with Win7 HP.

Actually I think I am good to go :)
Just been checking and the version I pre-ordered ages ago for the special offer price of £48 is the "Full PC DVD" version and it says on the site I got it from (rainforest related!) that it contains both "the 32bit and 64bit" versions.
Ooo I hope this is the case :D
