Hello all, Im goin to be ordering my first gaming pc tommorow and was wondering if you would double check my build for things like compatibility, wires etc.

http://s11.postimage.org/gng7ettlf/reekon.jpg

was thinking about the Gigabyte Z77-D3H @ £83.99, would this be same performance for cheaper? Read that this board would need a BIOS update, not too good with drivers xD

any feedback would be apreciated, ordering tommorow mid day so please please help me! :P

• And yes you can select the D3H for a single card setup, updating the BIOS is easy, download the latest, place onto a USB stick, boot into the BIOS and select Qflash, follow the instructions, simple.

thanks for the reply Stulid, would i need to have the BIOS update for the z77-D3H already on a pendrive, not too sure how I would go about it. would i install the drivers in the box that came with the mobo and then dl the latest bios and then put on to a usb an do Qflash?#

Ps - gtx660ti vs 7850 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/647?vs=549
plus I like nvidia more, won't be suffering too much in terms of performance I dont think?

If the PC fails to boot up with the GFX card fitted then do the BIOS update.

If it works fine, then you dont really have to.

----------------------------------------

It really is a simple process.

You can connect the monitor to the board directly with the GFX removed to get a display up.

Download the latest BIOS.

Extract the compressed file and place the 8MB file onto the USB stick.

Boot into the BIOS with the stick fitted to a USB port.

Click on QFlash.

Follow the simple instructions that basically ask, what drive to look at, what file to update from. It then does its thing and then after completion will ask if you want to reboot or powerOFF.

getting really paranoid about all of the drivers and stuff for the system, building it isent going to be that bad PS, i've got the OS and Monitor sorted.

Stulid, you couldent tell me in which order the driver could go would you? i mean, obviously installing the BIOS upgrade, but like you said without the gpu installed, what bout the order of operation e.g should i install win 7 and the network drivers, then the BIOS, then GPU drivers then which over drivers would i need?

this is what build looks like atm - http://www.freeimagehosting.net/y6b24

Just use your motherboard disc and install the lot in one go, chipset, lan, e.t.c

would that be a way around it? install all of the Manufactur disks and then just update them drivers through internet. guessing that way would be easier then i would knoe which drivers would need updating because they would have come on disk originally :/ stressfull xD

Not like the cheaper RAM I mentioned earlier then? :p

What are your thoughts on the 128GB Samsung SSD also?

might aswell go for the faster RAM whilest the money their tbh, and just wanted a standard SATA III ssd capable of installing OS, nothing much more wanted of it, didn't want it to store games to etc, but thanks for the suggestion :)!

You said you changed it accordingly. Some people dont question stulid they just do what he suggests. It's £50 for the XMS3 2000mhz kit and Stulid will tell you himself it makes next to no odds using it over 1600mhz.

I think many of us would agree it would be wise to use the Kingston Genesis at £25 and if you have extra cash improve your heatsink. It's your build though you do what you like.

true true, from what people said here.. I might aswell do what you said and go for an 8gb @ 1600mhz and spare the sterlin.

It doesn't. I have bought 4 in the last 6 months, they talk crap or have supersonic bat hearing and are listening to next door's microwave hum or something.

Got one outside of a case next to me right now, it's resting on a cardboard box, quiet as a mouse.

uhmm, guess the noise factor put me off.. but if this is true, then its worth the extra thew quid, great stuff!

Hi again, ordering this bad boy today!

Considering changing the gtx 660 to an 7870 2048MB.
wanted to add a thew games to the selection for the little extra price.. not too sure about the performance difference is it worth replacing the existing card?

was looking at either:

MSI HD 7870 Twin Frozr III OC 2048MB - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-153-MS

Gigabyte HD 7870 OC Windforce 3X 2048MB - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-099-GI&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=411

i have also found and saved £20 on this monitor http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-182-SA, monitor is going to be used primarily for gaming and was wondering if you guys thought it would do the job, if not could you reccomend me one that does?
not botherd about 22-24' just need the best performance for gaming I can get for my £ (150-170)

I am also considering replacing the Corsair PSU with this - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-014-XF

The XFX PSU is another good one, its just more expensive, but the corsair will power nearly every single GFX card just fine.

Out of the two 7870 cards you have selected, the Gigabyte has the better cooler.

Cheers Stulid, can save myself a little more by going back to the Corsair 550w Mod, just thought the XFX would be better/future proof since I'll be looking to overclock my CPU/GPU.

Ordering in the next couple of hours...

could anyone check the Monitor ^, wether it is good enough etc?

not sure about this PSU since ill be OC'ing.

RIG ARRIVED! :D

It came yesterday but was busy with a long day at college, will try to get pics up today, still have to wait for my monitor before i can start building, I shall try and keep you all updated.

Nice.

If you need help with anything during the build/install I will help, so just ask.

Nice one, cheers.

Get it built now and use your TV and get your OS and drivers installed.
Just plug your monitor in when it arrives. and you are up and running.

This is a potential option, however with me being as paranoid as I am, I would rather wait untill my monitor arives so all the parts are with me before starting the build :D.
