Morning all,

Please could you have a quick check over the following before I get ordering, I think it should all work alright together but I'd love a double check to stop me being an idiot!

CPU: i7 - 4770k
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z87X-OC
Ram: 16gb Teamgroup Vulcan Orange 2133mhz C11
Cooler: Corsair H100i

All of these will be part of the OCUK Revenge bundle, pre oc'd to 4.4ghz.

I'm really not sure about the case, money isn't really an issue with this but cheaper would be better. I might want to upgrade to a nice watercooling setup in the future. I tend to keep my cases for 2 or 3 pc builds so I'd rather get something that is nice to spacious to build in and will last.

Case: Looking at Corsair 540 Air / Corsair 900D / 750D / Ethoo Primo
PSU: Superflower 1000 or RM1000? Can you use cable braided kits with Superflower?
PSU Cables: Orange and Black preferred.
Fan Controller: No idea!
Blu-Ray Writer: Are these around £50 yet?

I've currently already purchased or own the following items:

Graphics: MSI Radeon R290 Gaming Edition
SSD: Samsung 840 Evo 256gb
HDD: 2TB WD - My NAS is my main storage.

Hopefully the above makes sense and someone can help me. I'm looking to purchase this week.

Cheers,

Rich

Case choice is upto you, either will work.

PSU, the Superflower are a higher grade unit.

Cables, unless you sleeve them yourself you will have to use extensions that attach to the ends of the original cables.

For the case I'd certainly go with either the 540 or the 750D - they're less than half the price of the 900D and easily capable of housing a custom watercooling loop.

So just to clarify how this would work.

If I went with the Superflower, I'd have to plug in the standard cables and then plug in an extension cable such as http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CM-005-BX&groupid=1929&catid=2221 - I couldnt just plug that in?

However, if I got the Corsair surely I could just use http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-128-CS - However they don't seem to have orange which is a shame.

Also does the H100 come with decent fans or are there any others I should be ordering to keep the noise down?

Extensions are just that, an "extension" of the original cable.

If you got the Corsair RM, then that Corsair cable kit doesnt say it supports the RM range, every PSU has different shape connectors on its body.

I'm thinking I should probably change my build colour to red.

That way I've got more cable options and the fans on the Corsair SP120s come in red so would work better if/when I change to watercooling.

What would be a good motherboard for this build? Bearing in mind I intend to get a second 290 in the next few months.

Glad I checked my build now :)

Spray the fan rings orange? Seen a few people do it with great success.

I just know that I won't get round to spraying anything orange so no point even pretending to myself!

I'd probably be interested in knowing roughly how much the cable braiding would be though, or does it work out much more than buying the kits from corsair or bitfenix?

Any ideas for red motherboards?

Bitfenix kits would certainly be the cheapest option. If you get the Corsair 540 case, the PSU is behind the motherboard so you can hide it and the original cables and only have the pretty extensions visible.

Red/black motherboards:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Z87 MAXIMUS VI HERO Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £157.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-UD4H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard with *FREE COOLERMASTER SEIDON 120V COOLER £143.99
1 x MSI Z87-G45 Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £106.99
Total : £418.57 (includes shipping : £8.00).

The MSI G45 is obviously cheapest, but it has a brown-ish PCB which looks a bit...meh.

Instead of the h100i: the h105 has a nice coloured ring around the pump.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Hydro H105 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) £89.99
Total : £99.59 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Right,

I've made some decisions I think after looking over some of the different options with colours and also price. I'm going to stick with the orange basis as I had before.

Case: Enthoo Primo - this is my favourite case and the one I'm going to get. The PSU is hidden so it makes it easier to use the cable extensions if I want to and has a ton of future WC potential.
PSU: Superflower 1000w - Will this be enough for dual 290s and a big future WC setup? Could it take 3 x 290s in the future if needed?
PSU Cables: I will most likely buy the orange extension cables from bitfenix for this or get someone to do some braiding.
Fan Rings: I will man up and spray these at a later date if it annoys me.

CPU Cooler - Do I need to buy some extra/different fans for the H100i to make it better and push/pull? Or just leave it as is?

Finally, any feedback for a blu-ray writer?

Cheers!

You could get some noctua nf-f12 for your H100i - I am thinking about trying a pushpull with them in my CM stormstryker when I get it , not sure if it will fit tho...

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help I got with deciding the components.

I picked the i7 4770k @ 4.4, Z87-OC and 16gig Teamgroup ram to go with an Enthoo Primo and Superflower psu.

All installed and working nicely and the h100i is MUCH quieter than my old cooler so the girlfriend is happier with me leaving the pc on :)
