Dear OC Forum

My old rig melted down, and here is what I have put together to replace it. There are a few special circumstances that I feel should be noted:

- My budget is roughly £700 including a new copy of windows 7
- I have monitor, keyboard, mouse, all peripherals, a USB dvd drive and a 700W PSU already - so I do not need those
- I Plan on buying a 5870 at the beginning of next month - I will be sticking my old graphics card into this until then
- I want a PC that is so fast it scares children and causes relativistic chaos (I can dream...)

With all that out of the way, here is what I sort of hacked together:

Problem is... this puts me significantly over budget. If anybody can think of a way of getting better performance (I don't need another internal hard drive - have one I'll be using for storage - but I do really want that SSD) or even just equivalent performance with cheaper parts I'm all ears.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Also is it possible to have the OC.uk guys put together what parts are there into a system before sending, or is that only for the pre-built ones?

Genius, I'll do what you suggested with the hard drive. Totally forgot about a 64gb model.

How much will ram speed affect my PC Speed?

EDIT: Or, indeed, is it actually slower? I used to just read the mhz numbers and ignore everything else, but apparently that isn't sufficient anymore as sometimes they double the latency with dual channel ram in a deceptive fashion and I don't understand latencies :X

Here's the HD I swapped for:

It seems to have a faster write speed as well, which seems nice.

To andiboy,

You should start your own thread.

The first thing wrong with your spec is the memory.

You can edit using the button at the bottom of each post - I can't see a delete button, however. I don't mind - you can just make a new thread, I don't think anybody will grudge you an honest mistake!
