Hi guys, I'm only upgrading CPU, mobo, RAM and gfx, how does this look? :)

  • C2D E6600
  • GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit
  • Leadtek GeForce 8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
  • Arctic Cooling Accelero S1 VGA Cooler
  • Thermalright Ultima-90i CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/LGA775)
  • Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard

Why the E6600? Unless you're buying used, the E6750 is now both cheaper and faster.

You'd probably be better off with a larger heatsink. Have a look at the Tuniq Tower if overclocking or perhaps the Arctic Cooling Freeazer 7 Pro if you're not.

Tuniq tower or thermalright ultra extreme for the cooler everything else (apart from the cpu)looks great.
Oh and whilst you are at it maybe buy some akasa adhesive tape for the ram sinks on the S1 although i found the stock adhesive fine, some people report it being rubbish but i am guessing they didn't clean the ram with alcohol first.

Not so sure about the 6750 being a better overclocker than a 6600 i'll leave that to others, but the general opinion i would say at the moment is if you are not going quad go for a cheaper core 2 duo and clock it to 3.2 - 3.5 ghz.
You could certainly pick up a second hand 6600 for £60-£70 or go for the e2180 at £52 from here. or try and find enough to get the q6600.

Thanks for the reply Billy :)

Oh yep, I'm planning to pick up a second hand e6600, hopefully for roughly same price as a new e2180 so I figured that would be good value?

....
Edit: Oops, my bad, just noticed there are 2 Tuniq Towers, one of which is on offer this week, I assume you mean that one?

And thanks C64 too, I have some spare thermal tape to use already :)
