Hi,
I am helping someone spec and put a gaming rig together for a budget of just over £500.
To try and get best bang for buck we are going AMD route and are currently looking at the main gubbings as follows: (HD & PSU coming from existing system, and new CoolerMaster Case and AS5 of course!):-
Motherboard: ASRock 990FX Extreme3 AMD 990FX
CPU: AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4170 Black Edition 4.20Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor
RAM: Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
HS&F: Corsair A50 High-Performance CPU Cooler (Socket AM2/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366)
Gfx: Club3D HD 6950 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Also the CPU chosen above supports up to 1866mhz DDR3, so for the small amount extra will it be worth going with the following RAM instead:-
Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C11 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit
I know the ASRock M/B is out of stock at the moment, and we are choosing this as if Crossfire [OCUK Site does not mention Crossfire, but the ASRock website does] is decided on at later date it has the 2 PCI-E slots at x16 where other boards around this price do not, however after reading it appears performance gained with this is marginal unless running insane resolutions.
The alternative motherboard is the Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard [GA-990XA-UD3] if the ASRock is going to be out of stock for a while.
If anyone can give a quick thumbs up/down or suggest alternative or let us know if there are any issues with the above I would be grateful, as this is my first real specing of a AMD system since my Athlon 1.4ghz days !
Any suggestions gratefully received !
Thanks
Diddy
