Hi all,

A friend of mine is looking to buy a 2nd hand computer, said she is willing to pay around £300-350 for one, so I thought I would see what could be done if building a new one for around the same pricetag. She is not a gamer, will only be using it for browsing the web and doing her college work on it. I have come up with the following and was wondering if everything is compatible for starters and if there is anything that can be changed in an attempt to get it even lower?

I am aware that the Intel Celeron E1200 1.6Ghz is about £16 cheaper but never used a Celeron so not sure about it.. and I am presuming a Pentium is better in any case.. yes?

I have a XP Pro OEM disk here which has never been used, I also have a 8600 I can install in the machine (even though I would presume the onboard graphic would be just fine for her) so neither of them are needed.. so, is this compatible, if it is.. have I forgot anything?

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated! :D

Nice little machine there! Only problem might be that there is no DVD player on it.. then again could always get an external one I guess.. definitely will show her that one, thanks PwnDirect!

Intel Celeron E1200 No rather buy a quick single chip. How about amd route?.

AMD or Intel, don't think she will notice any difference between them so if you have a spec in mind go ahead! The above spec of £360 is probably pushing it a little so if you can lower it I would be grateful! :)

That's ok.. thought it might have been a slip.. still nice spec.. will see what she says about it..

Any more suggestions people?
