Hello,

Made a thread some weeks (perhaps months) ago about what to buy and having been through 'Read This If You Want to Take Great Photographs' today I'm wanting to make my purchase this week. This is my first DSLR although I've borrowed a Nikon D60 with the kit 18-55 for the past few years.

The list:

Nikon D5500 with 18-55 VRII kit - £700
Nikkor 35mm f1.8 - £130 (perhaps used for around £90)
Tokina 11-16mm DXII - £250ish (most likely used on this one, new I'd be looking at £350+).

I live in Snowdonia and particularly enjoy walking and would like to do some landscape photography, hence the latter lens. The 35mm prime is for low light and fast photography (indoors, pets, etc.). I'm looking to get the kit with the body as it's an additional £60-80 and apparently not too shabby at macro which I'd quite like to experiment with.

I'd really appreciate your comments on the above.

Cheers for the feedback folks. Taking it on board and looking at the D7X00 series. As it happens an acquaintance of mine has just put theirs up for sale on FB. Body with 1000 actuations, 35mm f1.8 Nikkor and a Lowerpro back pack. I enquired and they're asking for £800. Strikes me as a bit steep although those bags aren't cheap.

I'm going to ask for just the lens and body and see how much they'd take - don't want to be cheeky but I'm thinking that about £600-£650 is an appropriate figure. For £830 I can get a brand new body and lens. Does this sound right to you? I'm going by eBay.

£600-650 seems bang on the money then...with 600 being a tad cheeky and 650 being the going rate :)

Cheers. Will leave it a few days, heading to a photography shop locally to see what they have there used and will come back to the D7100 then. I think if they're expecting £800 for that they won't be interested in £650 - we shall see. Hopefully in the next week or two I'll be able to get back to this with a bit of new kit :D.
