Hello,

After a long time out of the game I'm looking to build a gaming rig (1080p). My last order from ocuk was around 8 years ago!

Small form factor, ideally console size - the Fractal Design Node 202 looks perfect but doesn't come into stock for another couple of months, are there any good alternatives?

No overclocking required for now, I'm happy going for stock cooling options if possible to save some ££ and upgrade later if i'd like to overclock.

I don't mind going for a mid-range GPU and upgrading in a year or so when more capable dx12 cards come out.

Wifi and bluetooth also required, i assume this is possible through the mobo?

No need for OS or monitor, but keyboard and mouse needed.

Anyhow, this is what I had in mind.

Intel Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail £199.99
KFA2 GeForce GTX 960 Reference 2048MB £146.99
Fractal Design Node 202 Mini-ITX Incl PSU 450W £119.99
Gigabyte GA-Z170N-WIFI Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 Mini ITX Motherboard £109.99
Samsung 250GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" £82.99
Avexir Core Red Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-19200C16 2400MHz Dual Channel £79.99
Cougar 200K Keyboard & 200M Optical Gaming Mouse Value Bundle £34.99

Total : £784.54

Any advice is appreciated!

You'll need a CPU cooler. I suggest you go for the 4 GB version of the 960 - even at 1080p the extra VRAM will help.

If it's to be a games console, perhaps a Bluetooth keyboard & mouse might be preferable?

Other cases to consider are the Coolermaster CM110 and the Cougar QBX.

Hi Quartz, thanks for the reply - I'll have a look at the cases and your probably right about the 4GB GPU.

Does the CPU come with an intel cpu cooler? Or are these always bought separately?

You need dual channel ram for ITX.

If you're upgrading the gpu soonish then I wouldn't bother with spending extra on the 4gb gpu.

I think the psu is the same as in my case...If so can't fault it.

I looked at that case but much prefer mine. Maybe look at the SG13 too.

All I can say about Skylake is that I'm glad I bought last September when the 4790k and 970 were new.

I paid 240 for my cpu and no way is a 6700k worth 80 more although ram was more expensive.

Unless you can't bear the thought of buying last gen, absolutely must have pcie ssd and DDR4 for your next build after this, I think the smart money is Haswell.

For an i5 I'd go for Skylake. The price difference is negligible, you get ddr4 for your next build and the lower TDP can only be a good thing in a small itx case.

Ok, I have decided to up the budget a bit and go for the 970.

Which card would you recommend / fit for the Silverstone SST-RVZ01 Raven Mini-ITX case?

Also, would I have to bump up the PSU to 500w?

Thanks
