I building a new PC for a mate. The main usage of the PC is video editing. He is going to be using Adobe Premiere. Gaming is also another role that the PC needs to perform.

I choose the following components for it.

The budget is £1150.

Some questions.

1. I selected the 1GB 460 since l know that is nice gaming card and also supports CUDA that Adobe Premiere uses. Would a 470 perform better at CUDA and in extension Adobe Premiere? And if so would scrapping the idea of the "extra" 4GB of ram in favor of the 470?

2. Would an i7 system perform better in Adobe Premiere than the current CPU?

Any ideas and thanks in advance :)

With the budget in mind, I would definitely invest in double the ram and skip out on the 470. The 470 will only come into its own for gaming, now whether this is a necessity will be dependent on gaming preferences; the ram will help out with your editing needs and I would really not go without more than four for these needs.

The main attraction going with an i7 would be related to the ram issue; you get a triple channel memory option by default and will make it so you can either stick with a basic six gigabytes and in the future also upgrade to twelve should the need or desire arise without breaking the proverbial bank. The motherboard will be roughly the same price but also come with an option to go with a SLI GPU configuration in the future.

Huh, I did not realise there were two different sets either.

That is strange and I cannot really see a reason you would really want to go down the lane of mixing 2x2 and 4x2.

i would think 6gb or 8gb would be enough for video editing and minimum is 4gb. Quad core would be minimum and Six core is nice, maybe CUDA ad PhysX or is PhysX only used in games? lol

Or could get it with only 6 GB RAM and save £100.

Thanks for the replies. I didn't plan mixing the 2X4GB RAM with the 2GB modules; l thought it was a single 4GB module. After some thought l decided to go with an Intel system.

just thought of this plan.
i7 setup with 12gb using 3x4gb modules lol....
2x4gb and 1x4gb to work in triple channel hahaha..

Good choice mate, afaik atm single 4GB sticks are available in 1333mhz speed only.

@ Lemin 1090T VS 950 would be a better pick due to price difference.
