As per an earlier thread I need a machine that can run VMware Workstation and around 5 virtual servers including SQL/SharePoint and some gaming at the best setting I can get at 1680 x 1050 (a lower res than my earlier thread)

However, i now have a reduced budget of around £700 because I must buy a shed and I've chosen to spend some of my spare cash raising chickens.

Could the spec gurus check this and see where I can do better. I know nothing about what the best mb is for the price or ssds or psus. An easy upgrade path would be nice as I'd like to go i7 at some point for the hyperthreadng and would also probably get a better gpu towards autumn.

you only got 1 graphic card, and its nothing to big either.

and im almost 100%sure that that card only has 1 6pin for the power requirment

i think you could probly get away with OCZ StealthXStream 2 500W PSU insted, if im inccorect, im sure other people will correct me

or if your looking to maybe upgrade to CF in future then the 600W will do as well, will save you a few pounds

Yeah it's not the best GPU but money is tight and computer horsepower takes priority. I will drop a 68xx in it later in the year (or whatever is the best card at the time for £200)

Anythings better than the 4850 I use for 'PC' gaming at the moment...

any chance of putting more RAM in there?

we run a lot of virtual servers, simultaneously does take some RAM up though. Depends on the system but we usually work off 4 for the OS (assuming its windows) 2+gig for each machine, if they are running SQL/sharepoint depends on size of DB and queries being made as to how much ram and cpu time to give the machine...

We use hyper-v which allows you to spec a % of each core if you need to, i use VMware on my desktop but i think it takes up at least the whole of 1 core for each active machine, dont know 'that much' about vmware

yeah 8mb is going to spread your ram abit thin

ideally, u'll need 2gb for each machine, so 12gb would be a better amount for 6 machines

i only use quad core xeons for virtualization (as that is all i have) but if the i7 gives you more cores to play with then the better.... might be worth looking at hdd requests as well if you are going to have multiple databases, i use raid 10 on mine but maybe a bit overkill? 4 sata drives wont cost too much?
