Hi all,

I may have gone overboard with the spec for my needs, but as you can tell by the build in my sig, I don't tend to upgrade very often, so require something that will last me a while. It will be used for general PC tasks plus light 1080p gaming, I tend to play a bit of Enlisted and am trying Hell Let Loose. I've currently have an RX6600 that I will add to this build, so no need for a gfx card, and will upgrade that later as required.

There's no 'max budget' as such and I'm happy to pay for required quality parts, but anything too extravagant will be wasted on me.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £784.81 (includes delivery: £11.98)

Here's the reasoning for my picks, but I don't really know what I'm looking for...

CPU - I've gone for the 7700 as I don't upgrade very often and 8 cores are better future proofed(?) although I think a 7600 would do for my current needs and upgrade later if needed?
CPU Cooler - I've just gone on reviews and it seems good value
RAM - No idea what I'm looking for just gone for most sold DDR5 :)
Motherboard - no idea, just picked one. I was thinking a MSI B650 Gaming Plus based on reviews, but OCUK don’t seem to stock it.
Storage - Just picked the most sold M2 drive. I also have a spare 4TB SSD that will be added to the build
Case - I just want a plain black and quiet case, not sure if I need the additional fans?
PSU - Just picked one.

I know some items a pre order, but I won't be purchasing for a few weeks.

Thanks,

Slack

Not for the specs you have quoted, but would be handy if you upgraded to a higher draw graphics card in the future. £20 not the end of the world though and likely easier to put them in when you build than afterwards.

PSU - Just picked one.
It (TUF Gold) reviewed well at anandtech and haven't heard anything against it since then.

The Eagle is fine, but 1Gb LAN (instead of 2.5) and one of the M.2 slots is only 2 lane. A lot of the rear USB ports are only 2.0, too.

I'd say we generally haven't reached the crossover yet, so 6 fast cores still have some legs in them, but true that games are getting more demanding. If you got a 7500F/7600 (or upcoming 7400F), then you could upgrade to an 8-core X3D at some later point. Personally, I find the 7700/9700 way overpriced at this point if they're closer to £300 than £200 (there have been deals on the 7700/7700X around £200-£230 and like the 7500F, prices are much cheaper in some parts of the world).

For the ram I would go for this

EXPO, C30 (rather than C40 which you have) and 6000mhz. £7 more but think its worth it.
Thanks for the pointer, I've changed it over.

Cheers, I'm not set on the Eagle, that was more of a placeholder. Motherboards are a lot more expensive than I remember and I don't mind paying more if I'm going to benefit from it, I'll take another look.

Interesting about the 7400f, will that be available in the UK?

I believe is a worldwide release and will be available for DIY unlike the 7500F (which is system builder / OEM only).

Prices have crept up lately, maybe due to the currency weakening. The next step up would be something like the TUF-Plus which is available for around £165. Awkward to pay much more, because you're moving into B650E/X870 territory.

You need to be careful with Chinese imports now as I read a article that there are fake 9800x3d's going around now. It may also end up spreading to other cpu's for all we know.

Take a look at the King 95 Pro. It's £125 but comes with 6 fans.

PSU - Just picked one.

Given recent developments 750W may be on the low side for future GPUs: you won't be able to run a 5090 off it. And where Nvidia lead, others follow. If people are happy supplying 600W to a GPU then AMD and Intel will surely follow suit.
