Good evening,

Have finally set aside cash to upgrade my computer. I have come up with the following spec below. I already have an ATI 5770 and Windows 7 Pro x64 all ready, as well as other drives for data and media.

Do you guys think I can get any better value for money, up to a budget of say £600. Use will be design and development, including use of visual studio, adobe creative suite and virtual machines. In addition to the standard web, email and media usage.

Edit: Whoops, late night. Can you move to General Hardware please!

The 2600K is currently £4 more than the 2600 CPU, and will allow overclocking.

Included a P67 chipset motherboard to facilitate overclocking.

A ram kit that will fit under aftermarket heatsinks, if you ever want to add one? if not the ripjaw you selected is a little cheaper.

Stulid hit the main points

Swap for a K CPU verison
Swap for a P67 Mobo > I would go with one of the *B3* MSI revision boards

Personally, I'd ditch that HAF 912 as it's a straight up butters looking case.

That 500GB HDD is that going to be for the OS? If so I would change it to one with higher cache to speed up the whole PC but other than that looks like a nice spec for the money :)

Stoner81.

Thanks guys for the suggestions so far, much appreciated.

What drive would you use for the OS instead? I thought a 6GB/s drive would be a good idea, but, as you say the Cache isn't that big.

The cache and interface of a mechanical HDD are not important, stick with what you had:)

Thanks for your help so far, Stulid, it's much appreciated.

Would I see any other benefits for going for a P67 chipset over the H67 I had already specified, other than Overclocking?

Buy an SSD for your OS, I first experienced it a few days ago with my new build, it is just awesome! super fast, thinking of buying another one for games.

My Grandad is having the same build as me, but likely going for something like an ATI 6850 as he does video editing/rendering. Will the 600W supply be enough to power the card, or will I have to step it up slightly?

Also, what advice would you give on case cooling? I'm guessing with this build I will need some case fans?

Wow; thanks again Stulid!

Yes we have spoken about using the onboard graphics; but he looking to go dual screen in the next month or so.

Any thoughts on case cooling?

The case comes with a front and rear fan, this should be enough, theres no seriously hot components in your spec.

I've got a haf 912 myself, very nice case, good cable management and 200mm fan in the front :) i think its 19db and 103cfm it helps keep my i5 2500k + gtx460 system nice and cool

PS: stulid grats on 14k :D
