Hi all,

It's been a long time since I've posted here, or indeed read any posts. It's nice to be back!

New build time... My current setup is a bit ancient by today's standards, but it has done me very well:

Motherboard: Asus X99-S
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5820K CPU @ 3.30GHz
GPU: Radeon RX Vega 8GB
16Gb RAM
Noctua Aircooler
850w EVGA PSU
1TB SSD + data drives

All this runs in an ancient (and massive) Coolermaster Stacker case.

The time has come, I think, to get with the present day and do a full new system build alongside this and either sell or mothball the current setup.

As you can see I don't do this often, so I'm willing to invest a decent amount to have a long-term setup once again, price is flexible up to around 3k.

Usage? game-wise (don't laugh) I play World of Tanks mainly. I can run this on max on the current setup. I would try newer games on the new build, such as COD, The last of Us, etc.
Main usage - I do a lot of 4k drone video editing in Premier Pro, and this is where my current setup is failing me. H265 makes it struggle, and with 3 weeks in Aus & New Zealand coming up in March, the drone footage is going to be epic, and I need some oomph to process the HDR / DLOG H265 files.

My monitor is currently a DELL S2721DGF, which is 1440p and works with both AMD and nVidia sync.

Here is my specification. I chose the AM5 platform as it seems to have some life in it past the current generation stuff, and I generally like AMD more than Intel.

1 X Asus ROG Strix X670E-A Gaming WIFI (Socket AM5) DDR5 ATX Motherboard - £329.99 - COMMENT: Looks like a good board, and has white features complimenting the case. has PCIe 5.0 and supports >1 PCIe 5.0 NVMe drive for future upgrades.
SKU: MB-6J7-AS
1 X Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT Pulse 20GB GDDR6 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £749.99 - COMMENT: This is up in the air pending the 4070 Ti Super. Still think it's good with Displayport 2.1 and 20Gb VRAM. Prices may drop too.
SKU: GX-3A7-SP
1 X Montech KING 95 PRO Midi-Tower, Tempered Glass, ARGB - White - £159.94 - COMMENT: I want a simple life, and this looks great for the money with fans and fan controller pre-installed.
SKU: CAS-MON-01483
1 X AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D Sixteen Core 5.70GHz (Socket AM5) Processor - Retail - £590.00 - COMMENT: It's the top CPU for AM5!
SKU: CP-3DR-AM
1 X Asus TUF Gaming 1000W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply - £174.99 - COMMENT: Looks solid for the money, is ATX3 as well.
SKU: CA-05Z-AS
2 X Corsair Force MP600 PRO NH 2TB NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 Solid State Drive (CSSD-F2000GBMP600PNH) - £129.95 - COMMENT: PCIe 5 drives seem to be a waste of money, so these look good, one as OS / Storage and the other as storage.
SKU: HD-06R-CS
1 X EK Water Blocks EK-Nucleus CR360 Lux D-RGB All In One CPU Water Cooler - White - £199.99 - COMMENT: I chose this as a) It looks to perform very well and b) It doesn't need any custom software for the RGB which I hear is a pain potentially.
SKU: HS-018-EK
1 X G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo EXPO RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5 PC5-48000C30 6000MHz Dual Channel Kit - £248.99 - COMMENT: Listed in the Motherboard's compatible memory list, 64Gb for video editing and to have enough for future needs.

£2.7k rig for WoT would be a bit excessive ;)
Considering your main use (not gaming), I'd imagine you'd be better off to put the money in high core CPU and good bandwidth RAM. Have a think on a 13900K + 64GB DDR5 combo vs the AM5 setup and have a good look at reviews that include your video processing workflows. If energy bill from 13900K is a potential issue, maybe dowsizing to 13700K would be a possible option without too much hit on the performance.
As a side not - when would you re-build/upgrade again?
Thanks for your reply! Gaming-wise I will expand my horizons I think, to make use of the new setup, so COD, The Last Of Us, Doom Eternal are all on the cards.
I chose AM5 as it apparently has more upgrade potential than the current Intel socket? I can see me upgrading to a Zen5 CPU in 2025 / 2026.

I know absolutely nothing about drone video editing, but I thought you might be interested in these videos, since they include Premiere Pro:

(bookmarks to specific benchmarks are in the description of each video, at the bottom before the comments)
Thank you! I've been reconsidering my GPU choice, it does seem that nvidia are the better choice for productivity and obviously great for gaming too.
