Hi all.

I'm looking for a bit of advice on a new pc build. After 3 years of using a Dell its about time i built a rig for gaming but as a student i have a limited budget of around £500 all in.

i already have monitor, keyboard, mouse & gfx card ( ati 4650, which didnt fit my dell ) so what im after is just the essentials really.

Below is what i have built in the shop & was just wanting to make sure they are all compatible etc , my first build and if i could go any better with my budget.

Off course i will have a oprating sytem on top of below to make it around £500.

I'm hoping to buy the parts over the coming 2 months so can be a bit flexible in price but not much. i will mainly use it for gaming ( Cod4 & 5, BF 2142 FM09 etc ) and want to run them on med to high settings.

One question i have, im hoping to ge teh case & PSu int he next week or so, is the above ok or would the Antec 300 & Corsair VX 450W in the bundles be a better option.

Thx in advance

Kenny

Hi and welcome to the forums.

A few things i would change.
I would get the Corsair PSU
Different CPU cooler, TRUE or NINJA
Get the Abit IP35 Pro XE. (Is good and overclocks well and will save you £40).

Good luck with the build.

*Edit*
If you can stretch your budget i would get a 4850 GFX.

Unless your planning to overclock i would have thought the stock cooler would be more than suitable and you could squeeze the money that it used to upgrade something else..

But what i would check first is that if your a student at university speak with someone at your uni because i know some universities give out free OSs for use in student PCs, maybe yours does too and if they do then that frees up a lot of extra money to get something even better like a quad core maybe..

You can save a bit of money on the board, but I wouldnt go near abit personally, you could look at a P43 chipset such as the gigabyte GA-EP43-DS3L (saving you £33), the P43 clocks just as well as the P45 only difference is it doesnt support crossfire. The corsair is a better PSU, but the bundle doesnt save you any money over buying individually, if you can afford to get this week, Id look at the Corsair 650, its beyond your needs but is on this week only offer for good price, so it will last you a long time including future upgrades. The cooler you specced is ok but you should get the pro not low profile, its a capable mid level cooler, if you wanted to you could get a faster CPU like the E7400, you budget so its upto you. And yeah a better gfx card would make a noticable difference, if your budget is 500, if you change mobo that leaves you 130, a 4850 would be a good investment
