Hi all.. Earlier i was thinking about making 4 SSD drives and thought i'd not bother and go with a complete upgrade on my gaming rig instead.

My Current gaming rig is:

Vista64
Dell 24" @ 1920 X 1200
Silverstone TJ09 case
Tagan 480W PSU (upgrading)
8800GTX (upgrading)
C2D E6420 @ 3.2 (upgrading)
Gigabyte DSR3 mobo (upgrading)
4 GB 800 Mhz Geil mem (upgrading)
2x 320GB WD in raid 0
1X 500GB WD storage

I'm allowing myself 2 grand on the upgrade. The computer is solely for gaming and max frames at 1920. I intend to run the 2 X 64GB SSD drives in raid 0 with Vista 64 installed.

Initially it will be air cooled but i will be moving to water cooling in the near future. Advice on water cooling would be cool too as i'm not clued up on what works nicely with current hardware

Advice on the above would be great please :D

Not too sure on the Akasa psu not heard much about them to be honest..(sure someone can prove me wrong though :p)

Will you use your existing HD's for storage and SSD purely for os/games?

Yup i'll be using the SSD's for the OS & Games (Crysis and a few others)

The rest of the drives i'll use for older game installations and backups

lol don't make me start thinking of saving more & waiting again :D When new stuff comes out i normally like to wait until the ripples settle for 6 months or so then see how it unfolds then decide.

I think i'd need to throw more money into it if i waited for the initial i7 gear.

I can't see the i7 being the way to go for high end gaming as 3D GFX is the prime requisite. It'll be an amazing leap for everything else tho.

I have toyed with the idea of 3 X 280's hmmz :)

Yeah.. but you know in a few months, you will come on here and start reading all the posts on how people are enjoying their new Core i7 rigs etc etc :)

And a little tear will form in your eye as you look at your old and wrinkly Core 2.

I said don't get me started... lol :D

As soon as i do the upgrade i'll set it all up and forget about it. I'll then play for maybe 6 or 8 months without even thinking about it.. In spring next year i'll crawl outta hibernation and look to buying the best of the new i7 technology when things pan out.

I think this upgrade will easily do everything i want it to 'gaming wise' for even a year to come. Also, i don't smoke or drink so that means i'm entitled to have my way :D

I've had this Silverstone TJ09 tower for a few years now (best £200 i ever spent), my other half never even cottons on to me instaling 2k's worth of gear into it! as far as she's concerned 'It looks the same so it is' lmao. Even if she sees me tinkering on with it i just say i'm servicing the innards lol

I'm wise in that she has ZerO access to my bank account too so she can't even see what i'm spending on. She's also blonde which explains a lot, god i'm so lucky :D

hell of an upgrade lol

The way i see it is: Even over 6 months its only £80 a week, a lot of my mates drink/club/smoke that, or more on a weekend lol
