Hi all. Firstly sorry my first post is a please help me post, but I've been recommended to try these forums as you guys are apparently the best in the business to ask.
(disregard my blatant attempt of sucking up if you wish :p)

I have an old Dell p4 3ghz which I got brand new when it was fresh out on the market nearly 7 years ago, and my poor old machine now is finally giving up the ghost. Its time to respectfully chuck it on the skip and get a new toy.

I'm playing with a round grand, no need for an OS as of yet as I'm going to take advantage of windows 7 being free for another 8 months.
Really I'm looking to get the best for my budget (which is to include a cheapy 22-24" monitor) and hopefully run it in to the ground like I have done my old machine so hopefully get 5 years out of it :)

So my key points I guess are:

No OS (using W7)
No need for keyboard/speakers/mouse
A future proof socket (no such thing I know but you get what I mean)
22-24" monitor
Smallish case but quiet if possible

Playing a few games (sold my xbox for a Wii so want a machine that I can sit down and play "normal" games on), a bit of photography, a bit of adobe photoshop, some video editing and some 3d rendering. Also do website design and coding but this needs no power at all.

Possible upgradability for another graphics card, may upgrade to a better optical drive later and possibility of getting a more spacious case after I sort my office out a bit.

Any suggestions or comments, anything a bit OTT or anything not quite good enough, I've done a bit of research and the 920 on that board with that ram should be good to clock to 4gz? I'm not looking at doing any mad overclocking but would like to tweak a little to get the best performance that I can.

Thanks

look v good, not sure about that monitor though (as in never heard anything about it, it might be good) but this asus one is same res, same price and is very well thought of
Id prob change the CPU cooler to the titan fenrir, its a great cooler and only a few quid more
Solid build though, enjoy, oh and btw welcome

Is that Mobo that you have recommended Shadowtake any good, I have heard some horror stories about the gigbyte range just recently (I know you only really hear the bad reports and not the good)

I must admit I did look at the UD3 because of the low price, I know the UD5 is great but I cant really find any corners to cut to afford the extra £50, if the 4 is a good comprimise.

That mobo with the memory would look awesome, I might be tempted to cut a window in the side of the case and spray it gloss white (after seeing w3bbos latest creation) and change some of those fans to blue LED's.......

Now look what you've done......

Thanks for the advice on the cooler, was totally clueless on that

That boards fine, Gigabyte boards are generally really good. I've has Asus boards fail on me in the past, it's all just down to bad luck sometimes.

agreed, I think becasue the gigaytes boards are so popular atm, it looks like theres a lot of failiures, but due to the number being sold its still a very small percentage. Either board would be good
